SettleTheWeb (“SettleTheWeb”, “we”, “us”) respects your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect and how we use it when you use settletheweb.com.
Information we collect
You can use parts of SettleTheWeb without creating an account. When you interact with the service, we may store information necessary to operate the website, such as your votes, account activity, challenges, and service-related identifiers.
If you choose to sign in with Google, SettleTheWeb requests only the basic permissions openid, email, and profile.
From Google, we use only the information necessary to authenticate you and maintain your SettleTheWeb account, including your Google account identifier, display name, and, where applicable, your verified email address.
SettleTheWeb does not request access to Gmail, Google Drive, Google Calendar, your contacts, or other Google services.
To prevent referral reward abuse, we compare keyed hashes of network addresses. Raw IP addresses are not stored in referral reward records.
How we use Google user data
Google user data is used only to:
- authenticate you;
- create or identify your SettleTheWeb account;
- link Google sign-in to an existing SettleTheWeb account where appropriate;
- display your chosen profile name;
- maintain your account, votes, challenges, and related SettleTheWeb features.
We do not use Google user data for advertising.
We do not sell Google user data.
OAuth access and refresh tokens are not stored by SettleTheWeb.
Data storage
We store only the account information required to provide the SettleTheWeb service. This may include your SettleTheWeb account identifier, the identifier supplied by the sign-in provider, your display name, and, where applicable, your verified email address.
Sharing of information
We do not sell or rent personal information. We do not disclose Google user data to third parties for advertising or marketing purposes.
Information may be processed by infrastructure providers where necessary to operate and secure the service, or disclosed where required by applicable law.
Arguments and community moderation
Published arguments, profile display names, karma, reactions and argument influence are public. Reports are visible to administrators. We store arguments, replies, prior versions of edited round comments, reactions, reports, moderation history and related Power transactions in PostgreSQL. For registered accounts, we also store in-site activity notifications and whether they have been read. Hidden or deleted arguments are removed from public view but retained for moderation review and dispute resolution. Argument drafts are stored locally in your browser so signing in does not discard your text.
Telegram chat battles
When you use our Telegram bot, we store your battle choices separately from website votes, keyed hashes of Telegram user and chat identifiers, and the inline message identifiers needed to update battle cards. We do not collect chat names or unrelated chat messages. Outgoing bot messages may temporarily contain encrypted delivery identifiers. If you choose to link Telegram in SideProfile, we store that association with your account. Referral links let us measure site visits, subsequent votes, registration, Power use and friend challenges. Keyed network hashes and verified account links help prevent duplicate referral rewards.
Data retention and deletion
We retain account information for as long as reasonably necessary to provide the service and maintain account functionality.

We use reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect information handled by SettleTheWeb.
Third-party sign-in services

We may update this Privacy Policy when the service or our data practices change. The current version will always be published on this page with the date of the latest update.
